Bottle Caps and Shards

How Bottle Caps work, how to craft them, where shards come from, and the exact restrictions on using them.

Bottle Caps Overview

Bottle Caps are a late-game IV correction system. They are meant to finish a strong Pokemon, not replace hunting entirely.

Right now there are two Bottle Cap items in PokeOne:

  • Bottle Cap sets one chosen IV to 31.
  • Gold Bottle Cap sets all six IVs to 31 at once.

Use Restrictions

Bottle Caps are intentionally restricted.

  • The target Pokemon must be level 100.
  • The target Pokemon's Original Trainer must be you.
  • Bottle Caps are not tradable.
  • Bottle Caps are not holdable.

That means you cannot trade Bottle Caps as a service, and you cannot fix a traded Pokemon with them.

Shards

Bottle Caps are crafted from colored shards.

  • Red Shard
  • Green Shard
  • Blue Shard

Shards are also not tradable and not holdable.

You must use the same shard color for the whole recipe. Colors do not mix.

Crafting Costs

Use /use on a shard to open the crafting menu for that shard color.

Result Cost
Bottle Cap 40 same-color shards + 300,000 PD
Gold Bottle Cap 180 same-color shards + 1,000,000 PD

Examples:

  • 40 Red Shards + 300,000 PD crafts 1 Bottle Cap.
  • 180 Blue Shards + 1,000,000 PD crafts 1 Gold Bottle Cap.
  • You cannot combine 20 Red Shards and 20 Green Shards into one Bottle Cap.

Battle Tower Shard Rewards

Battle Tower is the first live shard source.

  • Finishing stage 10 of /battletower gives 3 to 6 shards.
  • Clearing every 10th stage in /battlespire also gives 3 to 6 shards.
  • The reward is one random shard color per qualifying clear.

This makes shard farming possible, but still slow enough that Bottle Caps stay expensive progression items.

Why The System Works This Way

The design goal is to make competitive improvement possible without turning the game into a breeding factory.

  • Hunting still matters because a naturally strong catch saves a lot of shards and money.
  • Perfect natural Pokemon still keep prestige.
  • Players get a deterministic upgrade path instead of relying only on impossible raw IV luck.
  • The money cost keeps Bottle Caps tied to real account progression.
